Like any Life Adventurer, leveling up corresponds to radically transformative experiences or attainment of official titles significantly higher than the previous ones. It is clearly not enough to spend lots of time in a puddle with no exits…. you must dare and aim for the stars. My first level up was while working as a psychologist, where I began coaching in Multinationals working at the Executive, Top Manager and CEO level. It was my first real experience with psychologist-coaches (there is a substantial difference when the coach is first and foremost a psychologist) and where I came in contact with big private and public figures and high-level company dynamics in the top management selection and top level coaching. That job, I needed to fight for it while rejecting the «aura mediocritas» of the world, and it was the beginning of a real inner journey of personal and professional transformation: I had discovered that the world was immense and I was very small. A middle-class professional with no name, no family resources, and no contacts facing a Reality where there was a lot of money, immense opportunities, but also serious dangers, and where an anonymous person like me had to be very prepared even to stay afloat. I was a simple psychologist, prepared to feel the infinite subtleties of variations in people’s souls, sensitive and analytical, but the real world was not what I had been taught, nor what I had studied in (post)university. There were sharks, the dangerous ones in the movies, and they could devour me in an instant because in Life we are not only what we learn, but what we are. At the same time among the sharp corals there are unique experiences and treasures normally inaccessible to those who (sub)-live.
Amidst a thousand uncertainties, I had only one certainty: after seeing the immensity, I wanted to explore the Real world and take a piece of it and to do so, I had to roll up my sleeves and surpass myself in every moment, knowing that my only true ally was my mind and its ability to expand.
