«Credo di aver commesso molti errori nella mia vita. Anche se, come abbiamo visto in Super-viv(i)ente y en [NO] War, definirli errori a volte può essere negativo, in questo caso mi piacerebbe trarre vantaggio anche dall’aspetto negativo. Uno di questi errori è stato rimanere focalizzato su un punto. Sono sempre stato colpito e affascinato dagli eremiti, gli ermetici e gli stoici. Persone che consideravano il proprio modo di vivere e di vedere il mondo così importante da trasmetterlo in modo puro, senza cercare l’avvicinamento agli altri. Trovo che sia una forma meravigliosa d’arte e mi considero parte di questo movimento d’anima.

Tuttavia, con il passare del tempo, mi sono reso conto che a volte preferisco fare ciò non solo per la questione artistica di produrre qualcosa di incomprensibile ai più, ma anche per una necessità di protezione. A volte, il confine tra la protezione del proprio tesoro personale e la limitazione dell’accesso a poche persone è sottile, e mi chiedo se, dato che siamo solo particelle di polvere nel cosmo, valga la pena che il tesoro rimanga solo tra pochi eletti.

È certo che per me la selezione è fondamentale nella vita. Allo stesso tempo, però, siamo tutti connessi, quindi se è giusto concentrare le proprie energie e risorse solo in direzioni che sappiamo ci ricambino positivamente, allo stesso modo ci stiamo escludendo da serie di potenzialità che potrebbero essere altrettanto insignificanti quanto il numero di persone che possiamo realmente tenere attorno, ma che potrebbero portare a qualcosa di nuovo. Si aggiunge a ciò un aspetto pratico: il canale, il mezzo attraverso il quale si raggiungono le persone, non è neutro, e ci sono effettivamente una serie di difficoltà che impediscono un accesso diretto alle persone a cui vogliamo arrivare. Ultimamente sembra persino che il canale abbia interessi nel far sì che un’espansione che pensiamo vada in tutte le direzioni effettivamente si sposti nella direzione voluta da qualcun altro e non da noi.

Parlo, ovviamente, delle reti sociali, delle questioni legate alle preferenze, ai cookie, allo studio dei nostri interessi e dei nostri gusti, eccetera. Come si risolve questo? Credo che l’unica soluzione sia considerare l’errore non più come qualcosa di sbagliato, ma come la speranza di qualcosa di giusto al di fuori di uno schema che magari ci costringe ad avere cose che qualcun altro desidera per noi.

Inoltre, tutto si basa non solo sul passaggio dal micro al macro, ma anche sull’espressione libera e sull’abbandono. Odio pensare all’abbandono. In molte filosofie e religioni si parla dell’abbandono a una forza superiore, a Dio, o a una biologia. Tuttavia, è vero che abbandonarsi è comunque parte della consapevolezza dei propri limiti. E la speranza, per quanto possa essere una magra consolazione, una menzogna di persone incapaci di accettare che realmente non possono fare nulla e che tirano i dadi perché non hanno abbastanza forza, è una reale alleata.

Per questo bisogna tirare più dadi possibile. Per questa ragione, in questo libro, condivido le idee con tutti e non solo con pochi. E i dadi che lancio sono dadi che arriveranno, spesso e temo, in terreni ostili, ma credo che talvolta possano atterrare anche in terreni fertili. Speriamo bene.»

«I think I have made many mistakes in my life. Although, as we saw in Super-viv(i)ente and [NO] War, calling them mistakes can sometimes be negative, in this case I would like to take advantage of the negative aspect as well. One of those mistakes was staying focused on one point. I have always been impressed and fascinated by hermits,  hermeticists and stoics. People who considered their own way of living and seeing the world to be so important that they conveyed it in a pure way, without seeking closeness to others. I find it a wonderful form of art and consider myself part of this movement of the spirit. However, with the passage of time, I have realized that sometimes I prefer to do this not only because of the artistic effort of producing something incomprehensible to most, but also out of a need for protection. Sometimes, the line between protecting one’s personal treasure and limiting access to a few people is a thin one, and I wonder if, since we are just dust particles in the cosmos, it is worthwhile for the treasure to remain only among a select few.

It is certain that for me selection is fundamental in life. At the same time, however, we are all connected, so while it is right to focus one’s energies and resources only in directions that we know will reciprocate positively, we are likewise excluding ourselves from sets of potentials that might be just as insignificant as the number of people we can actually keep around, but that could lead to something new. Added to this is a practical aspect: the channel, the medium through which we reach people, is not neutral, and there are indeed a number of difficulties that prevent direct access to the people we want to reach. Lately it even seems that the channel has interests in making an expansion that we think is going in all directions actually move in the direction that someone else wants and not us.

I’m talking, of course, about social networks, preference issues, cookies, studying our interests and tastes, and so on. How do we solve this? I think the only solution is to see the error no longer as something wrong, but as the hope for something right outside of a pattern that perhaps forces us to have things that someone else wants for us.

Also, it is all about not only moving from the micro to the macro, but also about free expression and abandonment. I hate to think about abandonment. In many philosophies and religions we talk about surrender to a higher force, God, or biology. However, it is true that surrender is still part of the awareness of one’s limitations. And hope, though it may be a meager consolation, a lie of people unable to accept that they really cannot do anything and are rolling the dice because they do not have enough strength, is a real ally.

That is why we need to roll as many dice as possible. For this reason, in this book, I share ideas with everyone and not just a few. And the dice I roll are dice that will land, often and I fear, in hostile terrain, but I believe that sometimes they can land in fertile terrain as well. Let’s hope well.»
